COURSE IN MODERN GREEK LANGUAGE AND CIVILISATION (SUMMER 2002)
The courses in Modern Greek began in the summer of 1992 and are run by the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting. The aim is to give students from universities abroad an opportunity to learn or improve their knowledge of Modern Greek in the country in which the language is spoken, and to combine it with a knowledge of Greek culture and contemporary life in Greece.
Modern Greek Courses in 2002
The course in Modern Greek Language and Civilisation run by the Ionian University will be held between the following dates:
15th July - 10th August 2002.
Lessons are held each morning from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm.
NOTE: On Monday 15.07.02 the lessons will begin at 4.00 pm.
The course is divided into two (3) groups:
BEGINNERS, INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED
with twenty (20) hours of intensive tuition per week.
The composition of the groups will depend on the number and the level of the participants. There will be a maximum of twenty (20) students in each group. If student numbers are not sufficient to constitute a group, applicants will be notified twenty (20) days beforehand and the deposit will be returned.
Course Content
The course includes Language classes (4 hours daily) and Civilisation classes (1 hour daily). The Language class consists of an intensive course in Modern Greek, including phonetics structure, syntax, vocabulary as well as oral and written exercises.
The Civilisation class covers the following topics:
Modern Greek culture (Literature, Theater, Education, Libraries, Archives, etc.), Art (Modern Greek Painting, Sculpture, Music, Architecture), The Ionian Islands (History and Art), Greece and Europe, Greece and the Balcans, etc.
Examinations - Certificates
Examinations are held on the last day of each course. Those wishing to be entered for these examinations should inform the Secretariat. Students not wishing to be examined will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
Fees - Registration
The fees for the 4-week summer course in Modern Greek amount to 500 Euro. The fees cover the cost of Modern Greek classes, lectures and cultural events. The University undertakes to ensure accomodation for all students, either at the University's students' dormitories, or, in a (two-bed) room of a B-class hotel. Regarding the prices of the rooms, please contact the Secretariat of the University. If for any reason you are obliged to leave the course, you will still be required to pay the full fees. To enroll, students must send their application forms, a photocopy of their student identity card, together with a non-refundable deposit of 200 Euro, by 31.05.02.
