The first Greek modern music conference will be hosted by the Music Department of Ionian University, and will be held in Corfu, Greece, from 26 to 28 November 1999, as the last scheduled activity in a week dedicated to Greek modern music. The conference's theme -'Aspects of Modern Greek Music History'- will be explored in a number of sessions, round-table discussion and free papers. Two sessions will be dedicated to Nikos Skalkotas and Yiannis Papaioannou, due to the celebration of their anniversaries. Conference delegates will also be able to attend a number of performances of modern Greek music.
Proposals for papers are invited for the following proposed sessions:
Individual papers written in Greek and, exceptionally, in English, should last no more than 20 minutes. The Programme Committee also welcomes proposals for short reports -no more than 10 minutes-, especially from postgraduate students in Greece and abroad who perform their research in the field of modern Greek music. Abstracts (maximum 500 words) should be submitted by mail or by e-mail to Anastasia Siopsi, Conference Director, at the address below, by 28 February 1999. Abstracts will be either in Greek or in English. The programme will be announced in March 1999.
