ASPECTS OF MODERN GREEK MUSIC HISTORY II
One-day-Conference on Modern Greek Music History

CALL FOR PAPERS
The second international Greek modern music conference will be hosted by the Music Department of Ionian University, and will be held in Corfu, Greece, 14 May 1999, as the last scheduled activity in a week dedicated to Greek modern music. The conference's theme -'Aspects of Modern Greek Music History'- will be explored in three sessions.
The first session discusses the issue of the 'Modern Greek National Music School''s leadership in an attempt to re-evaluate (i) the School's role within the wider spectrum of Greek modern history of music, (ii) its limits and (iii) its partial diachronicity in Greek modern history of music. The second session evaluates other less known aspects of Greek modern music history while answering to some of the questions arisen in the first session concerning the 'Modern Greek National Music School''s leadership. The third session will be dedicated to Dimitris Mitropoulos, due to the celebration of his anniversary.
Conference delegates will also be able to attend a number of performances of modern Greek music.
Proposals for papers are invited for the following proposed sessions:
- The 'Modern Greek National Music School''s leadership: Critique and criticism.
- The unknown Greek modern music.
- A dedication to Dimitris Mitropoulos.
Proposals in other areas of interest in the field of Greek Modern music history are not excluded in advance.
Individual papers written in Greek and, exceptionally, in English, should last no more than 20 minutes. Abstracts (maximum 200 words) should be submitted by mail or by e-mail to Anastasia Siopsi, Conference Director, at the address below, by 31 March 2000. The second international modern Greek music history conference will be hosted by the Music Department of Ionian University, and will be held in Corfu, Greece, 29 September-1 October, as the first scheduled activity in a week dedicated to Greek modern music. The conference's theme -'Aspects of Modern Greek Music History'- will be explored in four sessions. Conference delegates will also be able to attend a number of performances of modern Greek music.
Proposals for papers are invited for the following proposed sessions:
- The 'Modern Greek National Music School''s leadership: Critique and criticism.
- The unknown Greek modern music.
- Archives of Greek modern music.
- A dedication to Dimitris Mitropoulos (1896-1960).
The first session discusses the issue of the 'Modern Greek National Music School''s leadership in an attempt to re-evaluate (i) the School's role within the wider spectrum of Greek modern history of music, (ii) its limits and (iii) its partial diachronicity in Greek modern history of music. The second session evaluates other less known aspects of Greek modern music history while answering to some of the questions arisen in the first session concerning the 'Modern Greek National Music School''s leadership. The third session informs us about the sources concerning Greek modern music and analyses the methods of their systematization. Finally, the fourth session is dedicated to Dimitris Mitropoulos, due to the celebration of his anniversary.
Although priority is given to proposals that can be included in the proposed sessions, we accept proposals in other areas of Modern Greek Music History depending on space availability in the conference's programme.

The first Greek modern music conference will be hosted by the Music Department of Ionian University, and will be held in Corfu, Greece, from 23 to 25 April 1999, as the last scheduled activity in a week dedicated to Greek modern music. The conference's theme -'Aspects of Modern Greek Music History'- will be explored in a number of sessions, round-table discussion and free papers. Two sessions will be dedicated to Nikos Skalkotas and Yiannis Papaioannou, due to the celebration of their anniversaries. Conference delegates will also be able to attend a number of performances of modern Greek music.
Proposals for papers are invited for the following proposed sessions:
Individual papers written in Greek and, exceptionally, in English, should last no more than 20 minutes. The Programme Committee also welcomes proposals for short reports -no more than 10 minutes-, especially from postgraduate students in Greece and abroad who perform their research in the field of modern Greek music. Abstracts (maximum 500 words) should be submitted by mail or by e-mail to Anastasia Siopsi, Conference Director, at the address below, by 28 February 1999. Abstracts will be either in Greek or in English. The programme will be announced in March 1999.
